RED DIRT ROAD
BROOKS & DUNN
The Boys are back with their ninth original album, and from the opening guitar riffs you could mistake them for the other boys, Mick and the boys, but it settles down a bit after that. BROOKS & DUNN have always had the kickers on their side and this one's right there too. Not quite as well balanced as Steers And Stripes for mine, but still one of the best of its type. The B&D show is a big crowd puller in the US and each of the recent albums seems to play really well "live". Not for them too much contemplative introspective navel gazing, if it aint got a back beat, it don't rate a track on the album. There's a truckload of instruments available and used, from Hammond organs, a dozen guitar pickers, Mandola, Mellotron, a blaze of horns, right down to dobros and tambourines. They all get a run somewhere on this album. There's just enough of a hint of the old Brooks and Dunn on My Baby’s Everything I Love, written by Don Cook, their original producer for the first 5 or 6 albums, with that lively dance rhythm and cruising fiddle work to keep them honestly in the country fold. The title track, the only one written by both Brooks and Dunn, has hit number one, as has the album, so it's another blockbuster for the boys. BMG/ARISTA 07863 67070-2 RON ADSETT
