COUNTRY LADIES LEAD INDEPENDENT AWARDS NOMINATIONS
All received nominations in APRA/AMCOS Independent Country Music Single of the Year, whilst Karen Lynne also gained spots in Independent Heritage Track and Female Vocal from her latest album Second Wind; Karen O’Shea is a finalist in Album of the Year with Wish and Female Vocalist, and Dianna is a finalist in Album with Little Bit Crazy as well as Rising Star Female.
Other multiple finalists are Golden Guitar winners CARTER & CARTER and DARREN COGGAN who both received two nominations.
Twenty one individual artists, duos or groups made the finals of the 7 judged categories of the 2003 Awards from a total of 100 artists and 230 entries overall.
The list represents a mix of previous finalists together with previous winners CARTER & CARTER, MICHAEL KING, TRAVIS SINCLAIR and KAREN O’SHEA, and a strong contingent of emerging talent.
"This year again demonstrated the strength of the Independent country music recording industry," said Awards organiser John Arnold. "It was another tough year for the judges, with plenty of established hitmakers and award winners vying with talented newcomers for the coveted four finalist positions.
"In fact this year competition was so strong in the Rising Star Female category that the judges couldn’t split two of the finalists and we’ve ended up with five."
The Awards are staged during the giant Telstra Mildura Country Music Festival. Winners will be announced on Saturday 4th October 2003 at the awards presentation concert at 5.30pm in the Mildura Arts Centre Theatre, Cureton Avenue Mildura.
