LOSIN’ LATELY GAMBLER
Review by Ron Adsett
The international Canadian is back with a new album of curious country from the wilds of Canada with new band, the HURTIN' ALBERTANS. One of the most commented on aspect of this new release, his first directly into the American market, is the inclusion of not one but two songs about veterinarians. Now his dad is reported to have been a vet, but surely this is more about the quirky style of CORB LUND’s writing about the real life from the prairies than it is about rejoicing in the family tradition. Musically under produced and that just seems like a blessing, the lyrics carry the essence of real life in catchy lyrics and very musical arrangements. His true to life songs travel between IAN TYSON (who guested on his album mentioned above) and FRED EAGLESMITH with whom he has toured through America. He’ll be back in Australia sometime - It’s the travelling minstrel in him I think. Shock/ New West NW6177.2
