** FEATURE ALBUM JOHN FOGERTY ** THE BLUE RIDGE RANGERS RIDES AGAIN
Review by Bob Howe
The 1973 LP by THE BLUE RIDGE RANGERS was performed entirely by an incognito JOHN FOGERTY, after the demise of CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL. It was a love letter to his country influences and the single Jambalaya was a hit in Australia for him that year. This long awaited sequel, Rides Again, sold 21,000 copies in the USA during its first week on the shelves. Now he has enlisted a crack band (including BUDDY MILLER) and some well-known guests; BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN on When Will I Be Loved and on Garden Party, DON HENLEY and TIMOTHY B. SCHMIT from THE EAGLES. To explain the choice of songs, Fogerty said, "If I'm allowed to just get up with a bunch of people in a country bar somewhere, these are the songs I'll do." Fans will not be surprised by the inclusion of BUCK OWENS’ I Don't Care (Just As Long As You Love Me), but less expected inclusions are PAT BOONE's hit Moody River and JOHN DENVER's Back Home Again. Joyous sounds indeed. Universal /Verve Forecast 2714332
