FOR THE LIFE OF ME
Deborah Minter
Kiwi born DON ALLEN has celebrated his renaissance into the country music scene with the release of his new album For The Life Of Me. Don has had previous success in Europe but had called a break from performing due to business commitments. The new album is chock full of well written tracks from Don’s own pen, plus the title track For The Life Of Me, a cover of the NZ classic from PRINCE TUI TEKA. The track is long; over 7 minutes full of emotion (always useful to have on hand for lone late-night DJs.) Don’s vocals are rich and warm, with a good deal of experienced finesse and a touch of life’s toughness. Don’s own tracks are well written. From easy HAGGARD-esque tracks Beautiful Lady and Better In Heaven to ELVIS-like rockers like Old 45 (I love a good do-wap-a-dooby-dooby) Don’s music is well worth a listen.
