BUDDY MILLER – On Centre Stage
American singer/songwriter Buddy Miller is set for a major city tour in October, and Keith Glass reckons it will be one of the highlights of 2002. Circa January 1996. I’m in a Tamworth record shop with the Chambers family (aka The Dead Ringer Band). Bill & Kasey are trying to decide on buying a CD between two artists, one of which is Buddy Miller and his great debut album Your Love And Other Lies. "Take that one," I offer, not (of course) knowing how history would intertwine us all these years later, with of course Kasey Chambers utilising the talents of both Buddy and wife Julie on her albums and working with him live, most recently as part of the sensational Emmylou Harris tour of last year. Buddy first came over to Australia with Emmylou back when her Wrecking Ball album was fresh and was the perfect foil for her live sound. He also did a couple of little impromptu live acoustic gigs at that time and I loaned him an acoustic for those. Since then he has returned with Steve Earle plus a self-billed Byron Bay only appearance at The East Coast Blues Festival, but his forthcoming trip down the coast of South Eastern Australia will in fact be his first tour here under his own name, and one he is looking forward to. Dates: Wednesday, 23 October The Corner Hotel, Melbourne (with Lisa Miller), Thursday, 24 October The Governor Hindmarsh, Adelaide (with Bill Chambers), Friday, 25 October The Tivoli Theatre, Brisbane (with The Rich Family), Saturday, 26 October The Metro, Sydney (with Audrey Auld).
