HERE COMES THE NEW FOLK UNDERGROUND – David Baerwald
DAVID BAERWALD
and Here Comes The New Folk Underground that continues the near impossible to catagorise conundrum that faces just about every release we talk about on this page. Best known for his writing work with Sheryl Crow, Baerwald also scored part of the soundtrack to Moulin Rouge. The Austin, Texas based artist is a song poet of the highest order and as the title says, the ‘new folk underground’ just about describes the style. The songs are razor sharp, ironic and witty and the album, co-produced with Will Sexton and David Kitay takes chances. Maybe the best advice is to take one yourself and just listen. KEITH GLASS
