7,000 MILES – Shane Flew
SHANE FLEW
Primarily known as a drummer and vocalist behind Troy Cassar-Daley and as a member of The Feral Swing Cats, Flew produced an album for Normie Rowe a while back and now has his own eclectic set with songs he composed and plays a variety instruments on along with producer Matt Fell and friends including Mark Punch, Rex Goh and others from the Sydney scene. Flew is wiser than to pigeon hole himself and has cast a wide net. Not attempting to turn his Country cred into an ill-fitting career, he covers pop, middle of the road big ballads, Latin and just about everything else. The atmospheric and lyrically cutting Sing My Song, which pretty accurately points out his and many other’s predicament at radio and the jazzy/swing Sleepy Town are most immediately impressive but certainly producer and artist have come up with a top notch album that saves the most soulful, satisfying songs for last. The joyful Sister Music, the nostalgic That’s The Time and spiritual Guardian Angels. Flew has made his musical statement and damn the torpedoes, done it his way. KEITH GLASS
