TWISTS & TURNS – Gemma Doyle
GEMMA DOYLE – Steer Records
Gemma has an incredibly mature voice, and also doesn't lean towards the simplest formula musically. Most of the songs are written or co-written by Gemma - a number with producer Michael Flanders, and again show a maturity beyond her years. She has already attracted radio airplay with her single release Crying Game, and this new album has plenty of good new material. Musically there are crossover influences, but the themes and strains of country pervade the album, particularly in the great two-stepping duet with the legendary Lee Conway, The Nights Played On My Mind, and the rollicking live bluegrass number Time To get My Own Back. It's All I've Ever Done is a an excellent ballad which radio is just picking up, and there's plenty more to enjoy on the album. Impressive stuff froM a talented young lady.
